MEET THE FAIRY GODMOTHER- IFEBUCHE MADU
Ifebuche Madu, often described as “Artisans’ fairy godmother” is on a quest to create a model for economic development through fashion and the sustainability of African craftsmanship. Her vision is to bring her vision for the Nigerian dream to life. A strong supporter of ethical fashion, her award-winning design aesthetic blends traditional methods with cutting-edge modern techniques. With AFRIKSTABEL designs found in eight countries, AFRIKSTABEL’s priority is to Preserve, Share & Protect the African Textile Heritage. She studied Fine Arts and Design, majoring in Indigenous Textiles and Fashion at the University of Port Harcourt. She is a member of the Textile Society, UK and Textile Society of America.
Recognitions
In 2016, she won the prestigious Dare to Dream Uniport award for “Best Fashion Designer”.
In 2017, Madu was recognised by BMC Bank of Africa as one of the top 50 entrepreneurs with the most significant and sustainable impact in creating jobs and impacting lives in Africa.
In 2021, she also won the prize for best textile designer at the African Creative Exhibition and Awards.
In 2024, she was a speaker at the Nigerian textile producers at the Innovate UK and the Kingdom of the Netherlands Circular Economy.
